ICTM Workshop, July 2023: Self-awareness

Theme: Self-awareness

Self-awareness is simply paying attention to how what we do, say, think and feel affects ourselves and others. We do this without judgment. We just notice and make sure we are aware. We use five self-awareness practices: Self-reflection, recognize strengths and weaknesses, consider others, manage emotions and accept criticism.

Objective & expected outcome

Look over this week’s post for the message. It is a review of our code. We want the students to understand what it means to say I understand.

Understand: It is defined as ‘a psychological process related to a person, object, situation, or messages which require an individual to think and use concepts.’ Also called ‘intellection,’ understanding involves conceptualization and association. It is the awareness of the connection between pieces of information that are presented and has a deeper level than knowing and, in fact, is essential in order to put knowledge to good use.

Last month we used a John Wooden quote to emphasize what if means to commit to being a Sixtyone golfer and keeping your own score.

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

Being a golfer is a constant effort to work on your character. Golf can’t be taught. When we say that we understand, we’re affirming that we are aware of the association between what the code says and our commitment as golfers to try to live up to it. We understand safety, honor, purpose, consideration, courage and responsibility.

ICTM Questionnaire

Everything at Sixtyone relates back to the code. We’re asking 10-year-olds to live up to it. We will too. Take a look at these questions, and, with an emphasis on the awareness of how everything comes back to golf, think of how you would answer them:

  1. How long are you willing to keep pushing on a good project until you give up?
  2. How much do you learn from failing?
  3. How long does it take you to learn something new?
  4. How hard is it for you to let someone else take the lead?
  5. How much do you care, and how do you define it?
  6. If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it’s been for you in this role, what did we achieve together?
  7. When have you been most satisfied in your life?
  8. Who is your role model, and why?
  9. What things do you not like to do?
  10. Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant thing you have done.
  11. Tell me how you did it
  12. We’re constantly making things better, faster, smarter or less expensive. We leverage innovation, quantification and orchestration processes to provide access to golf with greater ease and less cost. We, fundamentally, do more with less. Tell us about a recent project or problem that you made better, faster, smarter, more efficient, or less expensive.

  1. Create a new game, drill or on-course activity.

At Sixtyone, we believe that you should play golf wherever you can, whenever you can and however you can. You’ll feel better. We promise. Hit us up if you want to find out what we mean.

Change. Think. Golf.
