Simple, fun or skilled?

You can only have two

There is a saying that is connected to the service industry, product development and other situations of choice. It goes something like this. As a customer, developer or decision maker you have three options: fast, good and cheap. The catch is that you can only have two of the three.

You can have it fast and good, but it won’t be cheap. You can have it fast and cheap, but it won’t be good. You can also have it good and cheap, but it won’t be fast. Those are your options. Golf is similar.

When it comes to golf, you also have three options: simple, fun and skilled.

You can play golf simply, spend little time trying to learn and rarely practice. You can also play golf to have fun, get outdoors and enjoy time with friends. You can also play golf to shoot a good score, challenge the golf course and win competitions.

But you can only have two.

You can have simple and fun, but you won’t be skilled. You can have fun and skilled, but it won’t be simple. You can try simple and skilled, but it won’t be much fun.

Since the purpose of playing golf is to have fun and enjoy ourselves, we really only have two choices. We can either play with a simple and fun attitude or fun and skilled. In order to always have fun at the golf course, make sure you choose.

Big question/s

  1. Why do you think your attitude is important at the golf course?
  2. Explain how expectations and attitude work together to affect how we feel.
