Oct 16-22: Culture

Objective

This is culture week. People like us do things like this. The goal is to start encouraging the students committed to the program to accept the responsibilities required to be complete and independent golfers.

The word for the week is attractiveness, having the power or quality of attracting; to pull or draw toward oneself.

We need to embrace working one ourselves, our attractiveness. Our strategy practices include three elements: Who can help, What do I need to do, When do I need to do it.

The first step in any successful strategy is to figure out who can help you reach your goals. Attractiveness is crucial when it comes to getting help from outside ourselves.

Notes & Activities

  1. We have three early sessions this week and make sure that we have coverage:
    • Tuesday @12 at Pacific HS
    • Wednesday @11:15 am at Indian Springs HS, @1:00 pm at Savant.
    • We need to make sure that we have clubs, setup gear (E-Z Up), prizes & giveaways squared away so we’re ready to go.
  2. Halloween party: We need to stay on top of the preparations for the party on Saturday, the 28th.
  3. Rosters
    • We should complete a roster list of the consistent students at each school.
    • We need their shirt and pants sizes.
    • Explain to the students that they need to register to play.
    • Direct them to the HQ page to create a profile (https://61golf.com/hq/).
  4. Site assessments
    • We should have all sites updated with appropriate info (e.g. site leaders names & email addresses.
    • Emails for other staff members if appropriate.
    • CBO name and other contact info (e.g. CBO QAC name, school site liaison name).
  5. Swing basics.
    • Alignment stick drill. Pick up 8 alignment sticks from the Home Depot or Lowe’s. Have the students (SAFELY) try to make the thing whistle.
    • Learn to compress the ball. Stop whiffs, tops, thin, fat and chunks. Hit solid shots.
    • Everyone should know the swing sequence (Start behind the ball, target, grip, setup, on balance, finish facing the target).
    • Students should be focusing on solid contact.
    • Go over the meanings of whiff, topped, thin, solid and fat shots. If you don’t know what those mean, ask someone.
    • The ball gets in the way of a good swing.
    • Students need to learn to swing the club, not hit at the ball.
    • Short shots: Learn to play from the hole backwards.
    • Make good contact.
    • Sweep the grass under the ball.
    • Hit the ground in front.
    • Here’s a great drill to help hit the ball first (https://youtu.be/N1Yd_CXkdi4?si=YtVMDUP4yc0xyD5S).
    • You don’t have to swing hard.
    • Long shots are the same as short shots with a longer swing.
