This is self-awareness week. This is the week that we focus on paying attention to how what we say, think, feel and do affects ourselves and other people. We have five self-awareness practices: self-reflection, recognize strengths and weaknesses, consider others, manage our emotions and accept criticism. We use these practices to improve our self-awareness.
So, let’s try an experiment. Let’s use our self-awareness practices to check and see if we are golfers yet.
First, what is a golfer? At Sixtyone, a complete and independent golf knows how to play, has the skills to play and separates the purpose from the goal every time they play. Do you know how to play golf? Do you know how to keep score? Do you know the rules? Do you know golf terms and phrases? What about your skills?
Can you hit the ball where you want it to go consistently? Do you have a go-to swing? Do you have a practice routine that helps you improve? Do you watch good golfers at the course or on the internet for tips? Do you listen to your coaches or make up your own drills? Do you keep track of your progress? And, what about the fun part?
Can you manage your emotions at the golf course? Can you keep the purpose and goal separate? How about being a golfer away from the course? Do you use your golf skills at any other time of the day?
Awareness week is a good time to ask yourself these questions. Remember, we do not judge. This is not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. You do not get grades. Being a golfer is a goal. It is a target. Golf is a game of honor. Golfers do the right thing whether anyone is watching over them or not. Golfers are honorable.
Are you a golfer yet?
