Opportunity

Students from the SBCUSD CAPS golf program and others participating in the San Bernardino Community Golf Project have been invited to visit the LPGA Chevron Championship golf tournament. The tournament is taking place at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.

The Chevron Championship is the first major tournament of the year for the LPGA. Students and their families will be guests of Chevron, the LPGA, IMG, and many others. On top of being able to watch the best ladies in the world play golf, the students will be treated to:

  • Transportation to and from the tournament
  • Tickets to the event
  • Food and drinks during their visit
  • And, other special opportunities.

Itinerary and logistics

This schedule is subject to change so make sure to stay connected in case there are adjustments. But, this is the current plan:

  1. Monday, March 28 @ 6:30 p.m. Special event Golf Talk session. We’ll meet here to go over event details and answer questions.
  2. Wednesday, March 30 @ 3:30 p.m. Everyone making the trip to Mission Hills is invited to come by Shandin Hills Golf Club. Come refresh your Sixtyone gear. We want everyone looking nice!
  3. Thursday, March 31
    • 9:30 a.m. Those traveling on the bus will meet at Shandin Hills GC. The bus will leave between 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Anyone driving their own car is welcome to meet at this time and caravan together to Rancho Mirage.
    • 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. Bus arrives at Mission Hills CC main entrance. Families driving their own cars will be parking offsite. Additional parking information to follow.
    • Noon Lunch will be provided once we enter the tournament grounds.
    • 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Aimless wandering around the tournament grounds to see what you can see.
    • 2:00 p.m. Meet up at the practice putting green to compare notes and talk story.
    • 2:30 p.m. Special, backstage access tour.
    • 4:00 p.m. Approximate time of departure. 
  4. LPGA events aren’t as strict as the PGA, but you are not allowed to take whatever you want into the tournament. Please visit this page to see what items are prohibited.
  5. Please encourage Academy students to participate golf tournament viewing challenge.

As @wyndhamclark was closing out his @usopengolf win, @danhicksnbc said he, Clark, had changed the way he thought about golf. We've been saying that for years. Though winning the US Open isn't guaranteed, we're pretty certain that good things will happen if you do the same.

FAQs

How much do the trips cost?
Fortunately, we have a lot of friends inside the golf community and out working to help us change the way people think about golf. We get a lot of tickets for most events. Check-in with us to find out how many we have available.

Who provides the transportation?
Families use their on vehicles for most trips. However, there have been a few occasions where buses have been provided.

Do we have to travel with the caravan from Shandin Hills?
No. We like to meet and travel together so newbies fee more comfortable. However, everyone is free to on their own timeline. Just meet make sure to plan your trip so that you can meet up with the group prior to entering the event.

How long will we be there?
The beauty of taking your own vehicle gives you options. Golf tournaments are all day affairs. The beach is open all day and night. Most trips last three to four hour without travel time. But, everyone is free to create their own schedule and stay as short or as long as you want. We don’t judge.

Do you ever spend the night?
Yes. Some trips have been overnighters, with pizza, pool and pandemonium included.

How do I find out about the trips?
