ICTM: 10/31/22, Self-awareness

Self-awareness doesn't stop you from making mistakes, it allows you to learn from them.

Objective

We start each month with self-awareness on purpose. Self-awareness is simply (without judgment) paying attention to how what we say, think, feel and do affect us and others. Becoming more self-aware is helpful at any age. Getting young people to understand the importance its importance can change the world.

Everything we do starts with recognizing how what we say, think, feel and do affects us personally and everyone we meet.

This week everything is about the Code. The students have gone through all four themes. Now it’s time to help them understand how all of the themes work together—and it starts with the awareness of how much impact of what we say, think, feel and do have on our success.

Expected outcome

  • Students should learn to recognize how everything we do is based on our Code.
  • They should understand the impact they have on everything.
  • They should recognize that getting better at golf is up to them. (We do the difficult things while they are easy, and the great big things when they are small.)
  • They have to learn to break the golf swing down into small pieces. They should get as good as they can at the smallest part first… and then build from there.

Activities

  • Talk about the Code, constantly. Break it into sections (safety, honor, fun, consideration, mistake, perfection).
  • Discuss with the students the five self-awareness practices we use at Sixtyone (self-reflection, recognize strengths and weaknesses, consider others, manage emotions, accept criticism).
  • Encourage the students to do the Self-awareness Challenge.

At Sixtyone, we believe that you should play golf wherever you can, whenever you can and however you can. You’ll feel better. We promise. Hit us up if you want to find out what we mean.

Change. Think. Golf.
