ICTM: 10/24/22, Fun: Physical and mental fitness

Golf is 90% mental and 10% physical.

Objective

The first week of the month we focus on self-awareness: the understanding of how important we are to determining what happens to us. The second week the focus turns to strategy: setting goals, making plans and putting in the work. The third week is culture, how people like us do the things we do. Finally, at the end of the month we get to focus on enjoying it all.

This week’s focus is on fun. But we go a step further. We make sure to pay attention to getting our bodies and our minds right, too.

Golf is way more of a mental game than it is physical. All golfers no it. Must don’t do much about it.

Expected outcome

  • Students must learn that golf is not a reactive game like baseball and soccer. It is a mental game like chess.
  • Fitness is defined as the condition of being healthy. Being healthy of mind and of body makes you a better golfer, and it makes golf more fun.
  • Students should learn that riding in a golf cart is cool, but walking is better for their physical and mental fitness. Walking is more fun!

Activities

  • Start the session with five minutes of mindfulness practice.
  • Connect how self-awareness (e.g., recognizing their strengths and weaknesses, understanding their personal responsibility for their development), strategy (goals, planning and work), culture (the way we do things) all contribute to our enjoyment (mental and physical fitness).
